My AI art generator kept making weird hands until I figured out the fix

I was playing around with DALL-E 3 last Tuesday night trying to get a picture of a person holding a coffee cup. The background looked great but the fingers kept coming out all twisted and wrong. After about 20 tries I realized I needed to specify the hand position directly in the prompt like 'holding with thumb and index finger.' It worked on the third try after that. Has anyone else found a trick for getting body parts to look right in AI images?

Got curious reading what @taylor174 said about hand anatomy references - did you just drop those keywords into the prompt or actually attach a reference image? I tried something similar for feet last week where I wanted someone standing naturally and specifying 'weight on left foot, right foot slightly turned out' fixed the weird clown-shoe proportions instantly. The specificity really seems to be the key, like telling it 'index finger wrapped around the mug handle' instead of just 'holding cup.' Makes me wonder if there's a whole secret vocabulary we're all just stumbling into by accident.

Used to write off the hand thing as just bad luck with prompts. Saw a post about hand anatomy references and tried it myself, whole different ballgame. Prompt wording matters more than I ever gave it credit for.
