My boss said 'AI just needs more data' and I had to bite my tongue

We were in a meeting yesterday about our new customer service bot, and my boss said the quiet part out loud. He said, 'The AI isn't working right because we just need to feed it more data, that's always the fix.' I was staring at my coffee, thinking about the six months we've spent just dumping more chat logs into it without checking the quality. The thing keeps giving weird answers about our refund policy because the training data from 2020 is full of old rules. It's not a data amount problem, it's a data garbage problem. Throwing more bad info at it just makes it confidently wrong in new ways. It's like trying to fix a broken recipe by adding more of a spoiled ingredient. Has anyone else had to push back on the 'more data is always better' idea at their job? How did you explain it without sounding like you're not a team player?

But maybe more data would finally wash out the old junk, like @troy_adams said about dirty water.

Ugh, like trying to clean a stain with dirty water.
