My air fryer almost caught fire from a potato mishap

Last Saturday I put a sweet potato in my air fryer without drying it off first. It was so wet that it started sizzling like crazy and smoke poured out. I opened it up and the bottom was covered in black gunk that took forever to scrub off. Has anyone else had a near disaster from not drying their veggies properly?

Dried mine on a paper towel first. Still got smoke but no fire. Huge difference.

Whoa, really? I dried mine out for two days on a paper towel and it still caught fire, so maybe my batch was just too dry or something.
