My air fryer bacon grease almost started a fire in my apartment kitchen
So last Tuesday I was making bacon in my air fryer at my place in Austin and I didn't realize the grease was pooling in the bottom drawer. After about 8 minutes at 400 degrees the whole thing started smoking like crazy and my smoke alarm went off. I grabbed the basket and saw the grease had overflowed and was burning on the heating element. I turned it off and let it cool, then spent 20 minutes scrubbing the drawer with baking soda and dish soap. Now I put a slice of bread under the basket to soak up the grease and it has worked every time since. Anyone else have a trick for keeping bacon grease from pooling in their air fryer?
Putting a slice of bread under the basket sounds like a bad idea, that bread is just gonna get soggy and fall apart while the bacon fat soaks right through it anyway. The real fix is just using less bacon or dumping the drawer halfway through, not adding more stuff to burn in there. Have you actually checked that bread afterward or are you just assuming it's working?
