My first attempt at air fryer hard boiled eggs ended with egg on my ceiling, here is what finally worked
So last Tuesday I got the bright idea to make hard boiled eggs in my air fryer after seeing like 15 videos about it, and I put 6 eggs straight in at 270 for 15 minutes without a single drop of water in the basket. Around minute 11 I heard a pop that sounded like a firecracker and one of them had cracked open and blown egg bits all over the inside of the unit and somehow a piece hit my ceiling fan and got flung across the kitchen. My wife walked in and just stared at me holding a spatula like an idiot. After I cleaned up the mess I did some reading and it turns out you need to put a little water in the bottom of the basket first, like a quarter cup, and that keeps the shells from getting brittle and cracking under pressure. Next round I did 250 for 16 minutes with the water and they came out perfect, shells slid right off after an ice bath for 5 minutes. Now I do a dozen at a time on Sunday and they last me all week for breakfast. Has anyone figured out a way to keep the shells from cracking without the water trick, or is that just the way it has to be?
