I used to torque by feel on the line in Tulsa, now I log every value after a loose brake line cost me a 3 hour rework
A lead in Tulsa caught me skipping the torque wrench on a 737 brake line 6 months ago, and I have logged every value in a pocket notebook since. What's your go-to for tracking torque values on the line?
I feel your pain on that loose brake line, and I will admit I once tried to remember torque values in my head for a whole shift, which lasted about as long as my good intentions on a Monday morning. My go-to now is a cheap spiral notebook that lives in my back pocket, one page per job with the tail number and the value written right when I set the wrench. I also write the date and who signed off, because half the fight in a rework is proving what you actually did. The notebook gets greasy and the pages stick, but it beats digging through my phone with gloves on. Whatever you use, the trick is writing it down right away, not at the end of the shift when your brain is mush.
