Shoutout to the old timer who told me to torque those bolts cold

My lead at the Phoenix hangar always said to torque the engine mount bolts after a warm-up cycle, but a retired guy named Frank insisted you do it stone cold at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. I tried Frank's way on a Cessna 172 last month and the alignment was perfect, no shimmy on the next run-up. Who else has a 'wrong' piece of advice that actually worked out?

Read an article once about thermal expansion throwing off torque specs on smaller airframes.

Frank's "wrong" advice shows how often the old way gets dismissed just for being old.
