Heard a guy at the supply house say he never uses a drill for door contacts
He was picking up some resistors and told the counter guy he just uses a punch and a hammer. Said he cracked a customer's door frame in Portland last year with a cordless drill and it cost him a full day's pay to fix. I tried his method on a job yesterday and it was way cleaner, plus no risk of going too deep. How many of you still drill those holes?

Guess he learned the hard way... my drill's been collecting dust for contacts since I saw a guy split a jamb clean in half.

A drill is just a tool and any tool can be misused. Blaming the drill for a bad install is like blaming a hammer for a bent nail. Proper technique matters more than the tool itself. A skilled person with a drill can do cleaner, faster work than someone trying to screw everything in by hand. Letting fear from one bad example stop you from using a good tool just holds you back.
