inJust had a chat with a barista in Portland that made me rethink my whole pour-over method
Checked my temp with a cheap thermometer and found the same thing. I was way off by about 10 degrees just from overfilling my kettle and not letting it stabilize. Fixed it by only filling to the 1 liter mark and waiting a full two minutes after boiling before pouring. Made a huge difference in my pour overs, the coffee tasted cleaner and less bitter. You probably already have a thermometer lying around, just use that to dial it in. The barista saved you from burning your beans for sure.

inHot take: stop treating your vintage letterman jacket like it's made of Teflon
Wait, @dakotab13, don't you think there's a difference between a grease stain on the wool and just letting it get wrecked from neglect though? Some stains from a bar fight or a good night out honestly tell a story and won't eat through the wool if you clean it right every now and then, not just let it sit forever.

inMy roommate said "you spend too much on takeout" and I realized I was dropping $60 a week on burritos
Are you actually eating the same burritos or did you drop the quality too much with the canned stuff?

inHit $10k in emergency fund last month and it felt weird
Keep at it man, that cushion changes everything when a slow month hits or a tool breaks. You notice the weight off your shoulders in little ways?

inHad a capacitor blow right in my face last Tuesday
Blew a 400V cap on a CRT monitor back in '09 and the foil wrapper shot right past my ear and stuck in the drywall. That sound is something you don't forget, kind of a wet crack. I was rushing to get a game working and thought I'd be fine. Now I grab my discharge tool with the resistor even if I'm just poking around for five minutes. Takes longer to find the tool than to actually do it, but I've had too many close calls to skip it anymore.
