I've been using the same old trick to fish wire for a decade, but a new apprentice in Denver asked me 'why don't we just use the magnet method?' and now I'm questioning everything.
I realized I was doing it wrong the whole time when he pulled a 50-foot run in 15 minutes with a $40 retrieval magnet while I was still setting up my fiberglass rods.

What kind of magnet was it, just a regular hardware store one? That setup sounds way too easy.

Had a similar moment with a fish tape last year. My whole crew swore by the old steel tape, even when it kinked. Watched a guy use a nylon tape that just glides and never gets stuck. Felt like we were all wasting half our morning fighting with the old gear. Sometimes you just get stuck in a routine and miss the simple fix.
