Old timer told me to stop using tape on alarm panels. He was right.

At first I thought this guy was nuts. I'd been using electrical tape to secure loose wires inside the panel for years. He told me to switch to zip ties and adhesive mounts. After 6 months I went back to a job I'd used tape on and it was all peeling off in the heat. Now I don't touch tape at all inside any panel. Anyone else had a similar old school tip that actually worked out?

Old timer told me to stop using tape on alarm panels" - yeah I had a similar moment with an old electrician who told me to stop using wire nuts and start using Wagos for low voltage stuff. I figured he was just being fancy but after a few service calls where wire nuts had come loose from vibration I switched over. Saved me a ton of headache on follow up repairs.

A guy at my old job swore by wire nuts for everything. He'd been doing it for 20 years and said Wagos were just a gimmick for lazy people. Then we had a service call where a whole panel was fried because a wire nut came loose and shorted out. It was a mess. But honestly, I've used both and I don't think it's that serious if you know what you're doing. The tape thing on alarm panels though - I still see guys doing it and it works fine if you wrap it right. It's not like the panel is gonna fall apart if you use tape instead of some fancy connector. People get too worked up over little stuff like this.
