Red Deer drywall guy no-showed twice in 3 days, my whole basement reno is stuck
I hired this guy back on the 8th, gave him $1,200 deposit upfront for materials. He was supposed to start framing the basement on the 12th. Never showed. Called him, said his truck broke down. Fine, rescheduled for the 15th. No call, no text, nothing. Now I'm sitting here with a half torn up basement and my wife is giving me the look. Found out from another contractor at the lumber yard that this same guy pulled the same thing on a job in Blackfalds a month ago. How do you guys screen these dudes before handing over a deposit? Thinking I need to start asking for references I can actually call.

Did you get a written contract or just hand him cash with nothing signed?
