Switched from hand-digging footings to using a mini excavator for my deck builds this spring

After digging 15 holes by hand for a client's deck in Lethbridge last July and wrecking my back for a week, I finally rented a Bobcat E35 for the next job and cut the time from 10 hours down to under 2 - has anyone else found a decent used mini excavator under $15,000 for residential work?

Hold up. You're telling me people are actually out there digging 15 holes by hand in a July in Lethbridge? I thought that was some kind of hazing ritual they stopped doing after the 90s. That's not bad luck, that's just making yourself suffer on purpose. At least you came to your senses with the E35. Now you just gotta figure out how to buy one without selling your truck.

Oh man, I just read a post from a contractor in Alberta who said the same thing about the Bobcat E35! He mentioned it was a game changer for his fence post holes too. I'm still using a shovel like a caveman on my own projects, but stories like that make me want to rent one for my next big job. The time savings sound almost too good to be true honestly.
