TIL a foreman in Red Deer told me my change orders were too vague and now I write them differently
Had a guy named Dwayne review one of my change orders on a basement job in Red Deer last month and he flat out told me it was useless. He said the line item "extra framing work" wouldn't hold up if the homeowner pushed back, and he was right. Now I list the exact square footage, the reason, and the date on every single one, and I haven't had a single argument since. Anyone else got a format that works better than a plain written list?
My buddy Rick got burned the same way on a garage job in Penhold last spring, guy said "general labor" on the invoice and the homeowner held back two grand. Now he writes down who did what, how many hours, and the date right on the spot before anyone leaves the site. Takes him five extra minutes and he says it saved him twice already.
