Pulled 47 nails out of one wall in my Nob Hill bungalow, and that was just the first layer
Started demo on the back bedroom last weekend thinking it would take an afternoon, and by Sunday night I had a coffee can full of bent nails and three layers of drywall stacked in the yard. The house was built in 1948, and whoever lived here before me must have hung a picture every single year, because they nailed straight through the lathe in some spots. My buddy Marcus came by, looked at the wall, and asked if I was doing an art project or a reno. Anybody got a trick for patching lathe that does not involve me buying a whole sheet of drywall for one room?
Did you ever look into the mesh tape and setting compound trick for lathe? I read somewhere that the rough plaster gives the mud something to grab onto, so you just skim over the lathe in thin coats and sand it flat. Sounds easier than hauling a full sheet home for one wall, anyway.
