Watched a guy at the Albuquerque ReStore fix a wobbly cabinet in 90 seconds and it changed how I hang everything now
I was at the ReStore on Juan Tabo last month digging for cabinet doors for my kitchen redo when this older guy bought a $12 upper cabinet that was missing a hinge screw. The volunteer looked at it and said it was junk, but the guy flipped it over, pulled a shim out of his pocket, and had it sitting dead level on the floor in about 90 seconds. He showed me he checks every cabinet by racking it side to side first, not by eye, and the shim goes under the low corner before you ever touch a screw. I went home and used that trick on the three cabinets I was about to mount in my garage, and all three sat flush on the first try instead of me fighting them for an hour like last time. Before this I was shoving folded cardboard under stuff and calling it good, which I now know is why my first set of uppers kept popping screws loose. Now I want to know how you all deal with cabinets that are out of square from the start, do you shim them or just send them back?
