That one guy at the anime con panel ruined the whole experience for me

I was at a small panel on classic mecha shows at Anime Expo two years ago, and this dude in the front row kept interrupting the host to correct every little detail about Gundam lore. He literally yelled out that the host got the year of the One Year War wrong by a month, and everyone got super awkward. Am I the only one who thinks these super-fans hurt the community more than they help?

and honestly that kind of stuff makes me not even want to go to panels anymore because you KNOW there's always gonna be that one person who can't just let the host do their thing. like i get it, you know your gundam lore backwards and forwards, but the host is literally up there trying to entertain a whole room and you're just gonna shout out corrections like it's a test. it's even worse when the host tries to brush it off and the guy just keeps going, digging deeper into the weeds until everyone's just sitting there in silence waiting for it to stop. those superfans don't realize they're making the whole community look bad because they're so focused on being right that they forget to just enjoy the panel like a normal person.

God yeah, I had almost the exact same thing happen at a smaller con last year. @the_logan nailed it, these guys are so obsessed with being the smartest person in the room they kill the vibe for everyone else. It's like they forget panels are supposed to be fun, not a trivia contest.
