Found out 90% of fridge compressor failures are from dirty condenser coils

I saw a stat from an old repair manual I dug out of my truck that said 9 out of 10 compressor burnouts come from clogged coils, and now I'm spending an extra 5 minutes on every call cleaning them instead of just swapping the part-anyone else notice that makes a difference?

That 90% stat sounds a bit high to me honestly. I've seen plenty of compressors fail from bad start relays or just age related wear on the windings, not just dirty coils. Cleaning coils is good practice for sure, but I think that number might make people overlook other common failure points.

Yeah I used to be on @miles798 side too honestly. I thought it was mostly electrical stuff or just wear and tear until I actually started cleaning coils first on every job and saw the failure rate drop hard. Now I'm a believer that a lot of those "bad start relays" were just symptoms of a compressor struggling from high head pressure caused by dirty coils.
