Had to choose between going OEM or aftermarket on a Samsung ice maker
Picked the OEM part even though it cost $45 more. The aftermarket one I tried first was dead out of the box and I wasted an afternoon installing it. Anyone else just pay the premium now to avoid that hassle?

Man, tell me about it. I did the exact same dance with a dishwasher control board last year. Bought the cheap one off Amazon, spent a whole Saturday swapping it out, and the thing just blinked at me. Had to rip it all back out, return it, and order the OEM board for double the price. Works perfectly now but I should have just done that from the start. Learned my lesson.

Yeah I read something about how those knockoff parts sometimes have slightly different wiring diagrams or firmware versions that just don't talk right with the original machine. Even if the connectors fit, the signals can be off enough that the board freaks out and won't boot up properly. Sucks that we gotta learn the hard way but at least now you know the OEM stuff is usually worth the extra cash.
