Pro tip: I used to fight with dryer belt tensioners for way too long.

Now I just use a small binder clip to hold the spring back while I loop the belt. Started doing it after a job in Cincinnati last fall where the manual said to use a special tool I didn't have. What's your go-to trick for stubborn dryer belts?

Ever try the zip tie method? I'll put a small zip tie on the tensioner arm to keep it retracted, then just snip it off once the belt is on. Works better than trying to hold it with one hand while you fumble with the belt. Found that out after a spring slipped and nearly took my thumb off.

Saw that trick on a forum once, total game changer.

Sounds like a lot of extra steps just to avoid holding a wrench for ten seconds. That spring tension isn't that crazy on most cars, feels like people make it into a bigger deal than it is. Just get the right socket on a breaker bar and lean into it, the belt slips right on. Did that zip tie thing actually save any time or just create more stuff to clean up after?
