Update: That time a 20-year-old dryer in Phoenix almost took my thumb off
I was swapping the drum rollers and the whole cabinet shifted, pinching my hand against the frame. I had to use my boot to kick the side panel loose before I could get free, and now I always check the floor level first. Anyone else have a close call with an old, heavy unit like that?

That "kick the side panel loose" part made me wince. I had a fridge slide on me once while I was working on the floor, and that sheer weight is terrifying. Glad you got out of there with just a story.

Terrifying is a strong word for a fridge sliding a few inches. Most of that weight is just insulation and plastic parts, not solid metal. Getting pinned by one seems really unlikely unless you're in a totally weird position. People work around heavy stuff all the time without making it a big deal. The story is fine, but the danger is probably way overblown.
