Had to choose between a 3-day removal or a 2-day crane job for a big maple in a tight Seattle yard

Went with the crane and it cost about $1800 more, but zero property damage and the client was thrilled. Anyone have a good rule of thumb for when the extra crane cost is absolutely worth it?

Totally worth it for tight spaces. I paid extra last month to avoid a fence and the peace of mind was priceless.

Honestly, that peace of mind cost seems steep. A good set of basic cones and some bright tape does the same job for a fraction of the price. Used that setup for years on cramped city jobs without a single issue. Sometimes paying extra is just for a brand name, not actual safety.

Yeah that peace of mind is real. I've been in spots where a few extra bucks felt way better than worrying about clipping something.
