inHotel carpet tear-out in Phoenix made me change my blade game
Learned that same lesson on a school job a few years back. Carbide is the only way to go when that glue has baked into the concrete for years. Now I keep a spare knife loaded just for those nasty black adhesive jobs.

inBought a $180 laser level, used it once, now it's a doorstop
Ever think about renting this stuff instead of buying? I know a guy who rents out laser levels for like $25 a day, and for a one weekend tile job that math works way better than $180 plus a $60 battery.

inJust laid my first clean 50-foot run of soldier course without a single plumb bob check
Man, I used to be all about the laser level for long runs. Thought it was foolproof. Then I had a helper bump the receiver on a 40 foot basement wall and we laid block for two hours before I caught the drift. Now I run a tight line and check it with a 4 foot level every few feet like you said. That combo catches a sag before it becomes a problem. You just can't beat that physical string.

inOur book club keeps calling the main character in 'The Great Gatsby' a self-made man
Yeah, you see that everywhere, like with influencers pretending they started from zero lol.
