PSA: Tearing through digs for TV fame is wrecking real archaeology
I just worked a site where the crew cared more about camera time than careful work. They yanked artifacts out like prizes, tossing the soil context that tells the actual story. Everyone seems to think flashy finds matter most, but that's how we lose the bigger picture. I had to watch a fragile bone tool get mishandled for a cool shot, and now its data is gone. We're trading knowledge for clips, and it makes me sick.

But did they at least get the dirt in a nice little pile for the cameras? I can see the shot now... dramatic music as they toss the soil context straight into a dumpster for a better camera angle. Next week on Bone Hunters: we almost learn something, but here's a cool clay pot instead.

You mentioned losing the bigger picture, but what about the future crews? That messed up context isn't just lost data for you, it's a ruined site for the next person who comes along with better methods. They'll have nothing left to work with because it was turned into a TV set.
