Remember when we had to map a whole site with just string and a compass? I dropped the prism pole into a test pit last season.

Dropping the prism pole is a rite of passage.

Three years in and I've dropped mine maybe four times (mostly my own fault, clumsy hands). I get that it's annoying and you feel like an idiot for a second, but $50 for a new prism isn't "rough month" territory unless you're buying the top-of-the-line carbon fiber ones. My old crew lead would just yell at you and hand you a replacement like it was nothing. Plus most poles are built pretty tough, a drop onto grass or even gravel usually just scuffs the paint. The real rite of passage is forgetting to lock the tribrach and watching the whole thing tilt sideways mid-shot.

My old boss in Nevada made us buy our own replacements. That was a rough month.
