Shoutout to that random field trip in 7th grade that got me hooked on archaeology

Honestly, it was a total fluke. My teacher took us to this dig site near Santa Fe for a day. I remember finding this tiny piece of a pot with a zigzag pattern on it. The lead archaeologist, Dr. Mendez, said it was from 1200 AD. That one afternoon made me sign up for every history class I could. 20 years later and Im still reading about the Anasazi. Anyone else have that one moment that just stuck with you?

Tbh @sam_scott59 that star maps theory is fascinating. I actually heard something similar from a professor at a lecture last year. She showed these photos comparing the zigzag patterns on Anasazi pottery to star charts from that same time period and the matches were pretty wild. I spent like three hours after that lecture going down a rabbit hole about how ancient cultures mapped the sky onto everyday objects. It makes you wonder what other clues we've been missing in old artifacts.

Read a book last month that said those zigzag patterns might have been star maps.
