That Whole Foods in Portland broke me with their avocado policy
I was at the one on NW Couch last Tuesday. I picked up maybe 6 avocados to check for ripeness - pressing gently near the stem. A guy in a green apron walks over and tells me I'm only allowed to touch two. Two. In a store that sells them by the crate. I asked him why and he said it's a 'sanitation concern for other customers.' So now I either guess blind or I shop somewhere else. Has anyone else run into this kind of produce policing or is it just that location?

Touch two avocados and suddenly you're a criminal in the world's most expensive grocery store. Guess I'll just start bringing my own avocado-ripeness-detection goggles next time.

Man, that's wild. My buddy Sean lives in that neighborhood and he told me he got the same lecture there a few months back. He was just feeling the avocados for his wife's guacamole recipe. A worker told him to stop or he'd have to leave. He ended up buying four that were way too hard and they never ripened right. He still talks about it every time I see him.
