We began saving cool astronomy photos from online forums to show at dinner. My brother, who usually zones out, now gets excited about spotting planets in the shots. The kids beg to stay up late for meteor shower image searches. It's turned into a regular thing that everyone looks forward to.

Did your family ever try using a star map app? My friend's dad got really into one last summer and they'd sit outside with their tablets. He got so good at it he could point out Jupiter's moons just from the app's little dots, which felt like real magic when they'd find it in the sky.

My family tried that once but my dad kept getting confused by the touch screen. Pretty sure you need an astronomy degree just to zoom in on those apps.

Actually had the same problem as grant52 with my parents and tech. We switched to just printing out star charts and using a cheap laser pointer. The simple stuff really does work better sometimes.
