I finally figured out why my primer kept fisheyeing after 8 years in the biz
Worked on a 2018 F-150 last month at the shop off Route 30 in Lancaster and could not get the primer to lay flat no matter what I tried. Recleaned the panel three times with wax and grease remover, changed my air pressure, even swapped out the gun. Turns out the customer had hit a deer and used some off-brand touch-up paint from AutoZone that had silicone in it. Had to sand it all back down to bare metal and start over. Has anyone else run into mystery contaminants that took forever to track down?

That AutoZone touch-up paint is notorious for having random additives nobody tests for. I've seen guys at the local NAPA parts counter warn people about it but they never listen. The silicone contamination is brutal because it doesn't show up until you lay down the first coat and then you're already committed to stripping it back.

Oh man, the real kicker is you can't even tell if it's bad until the clear coat hardens and all your work starts fisheyeing!
