Just found my old boss's frame measuring trick from the 90s in a notebook
Cleaning out the shop last month I found a spiral notebook from when I worked at a collision shop in Bakersfield back in 1998, and the old owner had drawn out his tram gauge setup for checking a bent unibody. He never used a computerized rig, just a tape and a plumb bob and a lot of patience, and I remember thinking it was ancient back then. Now we've got a $40,000 measuring system that tells us everything in 20 minutes, but I still keep that page taped to the wall because his numbers matched mine within 2mm on the last three pulls. Funny how the basics didn't change, just the speed. Any of you still keep a tram gauge on the wall even with the new gear?
