inWatch out for those plastic brake caliper pistons
Jen mentions "phenolic resin" and that reminds me of how those old rotary phone dials were made from the same stuff. It's basically compressed paper and glue under heat... yet people think it's just cheap plastic.

inRan a job with 0.001 tolerance on a 20 year old Haas and it actually held. Luck or skill?
@the_lisa I gotta disagree a little man. Yeah skill helps but that 0.012 backlash is gonna bite you on the next part when the machine decides to act up. I've seen guys finesse tight stuff on old clunkers but it's not repeatable day in and day out. The real trick is not having to fight the machine in the first place.

inI used to hate scribing for baseboards until an old-timer showed me his trick
Huh, I don't know if I'd call a three-hour trim fight that big of a deal. I've spent a whole afternoon on a single piece of window casing before and just called it a learning experience. Hot water trick works for some stuff but I've seen it warp cheaper MDF boards if you soak them too long. Jerry's advice about cutting long and flexing is solid for baseboard though, as long as you don't go too long and snap the thing. I guess it depends on how much patience you've got and how picky you are about the final look.

inThe Guthook trick that saved my ass on the JMT last summer
Oh man, I dunno if I'd call it a "trick" that saved my ass lol. Pretty sure marking waypoints on an app before you leave service is just basic planning, not some secret hack. But hey, if it helps you sleep better at night knowing exactly where every creek is, knock yourself out I guess.
