Vent: Waste $400 on a cheap paint gun and regret it every day

Picked up a no-name HVLP gun off Amazon for around $80 last spring. First job with it went fine, but by the third panel the clear coat started orange peeling like crazy. Turned out the air cap was warped from the heat. Had to drop $120 on a proper Devilbiss gun to redo that bumper. Now I tell every new guy in our shop near Edmonton to just skip the budget stuff. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way?

Not gonna lie, I did the same thing with a $50 spray gun from a pawn shop. Turned out the nozzle was drilled crooked. Now it's a fancy paperweight in my garage.

Wait, did you check if the nozzle was actually damaged before you bought it or did you just assume it was fine because it looked decent? I've been burned by pawn shop tools before too, that's why I always bring a flashlight and really inspect the tip and the air cap for any dents or scratches. A crooked nozzle is basically game over unless you've got a lathe to true it up, and who's got that kind of setup at home? What made you finally realize it was toast, was it a splatter pattern test or did you just try it on a practice piece first?
