Watched a guy back his truck into my freshly painted bumper at the shop on 5th, and his excuse was something else
I was at the shop on 5th Street last Tuesday, rolling a freshly painted bumper out to dry when a customer's brother backed his pickup straight into the rack. The bumper hit the concrete and picked up three good scratches, so I just stood there for a second trying not to lose it. The guy gets out and tells me his backup camera "shows things closer than they are," which I guess is a new one. Has anyone else had a customer blame their own mirror or camera for a dent they caused?
His backup camera shows things closer than they are? What does that even mean, the man is driving blind and blaming the screen for it. Next time someone dents your stuff they'll probably say their GPS told them to turn into your bumper. I'd have asked him if the camera also made him forget how mirrors work, since those have been doing that job just fine for like a hundred years.
A lot of cars actually turn off the backup camera the second you shift out of reverse, so if you're still rolling even a tiny bit the screen's already dead. That's probably the real issue here, not the distance thing @jadep41, guy was staring at a black screen and calling it a camera problem. Mirrors don't quit on you mid-park, that's the whole point.
