A customer showed me I was overthinking these AC diagnostics

Guy brought in a 2010 Civic last Tuesday with no cold air and I was jumping straight to the compressor. He asked if I checked the condenser fins first, which I had not, and sure enough they were packed with debris from a construction zone. Anyone else ever have a customer point out something so obvious you felt kinda dumb?

Oh come on, you get shown one simple thing and suddenly it's a whole story. People miss obvious stuff all the time, it's not that deep.

Haha yeah no that happens way more than I'd like to admit. I had a guy come in with a check engine light one time and I was all set to replace the oxygen sensor until he goes "hey did you check the gas cap?" and I hadn't even thought of it. Sure enough that fixed the whole thing. It's humbling for sure but honestly I'd rather a customer catch something simple like that than spend hours chasing a problem I made bigger than it needed to be. You just get so locked into your own head sometimes and forget the basic stuff.
