Finally gave up on chain wrenches for oil filters after getting burned one too many times
I was in the middle of a tough oil change on a 2014 F-150 last week and the chain wrench slipped again. Took a chunk out of my knuckle and I was bleeding all over the customer's driveway. Switched to a cap-style filter wrench and got the job done in 30 seconds flat. Has anyone else made the switch and not looked back?

Bought a cap style wrench right after a similar bloody knuckle incident on a Ram 1500 and never looked back. The chain wrenches always seemed to slip on the old crusty filters no matter how tight I got them. Now I just pop the cap on, give it a quarter turn, and it's done. Saved me a lot of bandages and swearing for sure.

Gotta disagree man, I've been using chain wrenches for like 12 years and never had that happen. Maybe you just got a cheap one or weren't getting the chain tight enough before cranking?
