I don't get why everyone loves those torque wrench calibration services so much
Last Tuesday I was pulling a transmission on a '97 Ford F-150 behind my shop in Chattanooga. My old Craftsman torque wrench was clicking funny so I figured I'd send it off to one of those fancy calibration places everyone raves about. They wanted $85 plus shipping and told me it'd be 3 weeks. I just grabbed a new Precision Instruments one off the truck for $120 and it's been dead on for 2 months now. Has anyone else found that paying for calibration just isn't worth the wait and hassle?

Wait, you paid $85 just to get a calibration done on an old Craftsman? That's nuts. I've got the same model from like 2003 and I just compare it against a known good click-type at my buddy's shop every couple years. If it's off by a few foot-pounds I just reset the spring tension with a small screwdriver and it's good to go for another year. You could have bought a whole new torque wrench for that money instead of throwing it at a piece of paper saying it's accurate. How many times have you actually sent a tool in for professional calibration?

Yeah but some of us actually torque head bolts and don't just guess it close enough.
