Rant: I chased a phantom rattle for three days and it was a loose quarter in the glove box

Customer came in with a 2018 Civic, said there was a terrible noise from the front end over bumps. I spent hours checking suspension, exhaust hangers, even the heat shields. I finally found the source when I opened the glove box and a single quarter fell out and rolled across the floor. The bill for the diag time was over $300. Always check the simple stuff first, right? What's the dumbest thing you've ever found causing a noise complaint?

Actually, that diag fee is totally fair. You're paying for the time and skill to rule out the serious stuff. A noise described as "front end" sends you under the car, not to the glove box first. Finding the simple thing is only obvious after you've checked everything else. The customer paid to know their suspension wasn't about to fall apart. That peace of mind has a price.

Seriously? I'd be mad if I paid three hundred bucks for someone to find a coin. That's on you for not doing a basic interior check before tearing into the suspension.
