Stopped chasing torque specs on rusty bolts, now I go by feel first

Used to follow the manual religiously on every suspension job, even on a 2004 F-150 with 180k miles of Michigan salt. After snapping two lower control arm bolts in one afternoon, I started hitting them with a torch and using my wrist to judge when they give. Now I only break out the torque wrench on clean, new hardware or engine internals. Anyone else trust the rusty bolt dance more than the spec sheet?

Snapped TWO control arm bolts in one afternoon? Man, that would have made me throw my whole toolbox into the street. I get the rust belt struggle, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't still sweat bullets every time I feel that bolt start to twist without breaking. The torch method is a game changer, sure, but my wrist has lied to me before on a particularly crusty tie rod end.
