Am I the only one who almost had a bear incident from leaving out cooking grease?
Last week on the Wonderland Trail, I made a stupid mistake after dinner... I poured my bacon grease near camp instead of packing it out. Woke up to rustling and saw a bear sniffing around my tent area. It wandered off, but I was shaking for hours. Now I double-bag all food waste and carry a small container for grease. Seriously, check if your route has specific rules for disposal... it's not worth the risk.

Disagree with making grease the main villain here. Bears will come for ANY strong smell, so focusing just on grease misses the bigger picture. Just secure ALL your scents and you are good.

Seriously, the_phanthony is totally right about this lol. I watched a bear zero in on a campsite last summer because someone left out a tube of super strong sunscreen. It wasn't food or grease at all, just that super fake coconut smell. Made me realize you have to lock down everything with any smell, even stuff you wouldn't normally think about.
