Just realized the John Muir Trail is overhyped for beginners
Last month I hiked the JMT and saw 40 people in one day near Muir Pass. The PCT section through Yosemite was way more chill and had better views in my opinion. Anyone else ditch the popular routes for quieter alternatives?

One time on a trip I took a wrong turn and ended up on some random trail that wasn't even on the map, and it turned out to be the best hiking I've ever done, no crowds at all. People get so stuck on these famous routes they forget half the fun is getting a little lost and finding your own spot. Did that Muir Pass crowd kill the vibe for you, or was it still worth the hassle?
