Overheard a ranger at Glacier saying the Highline Trail is getting sketchy
Was picking up a permit last week and heard a backcountry ranger telling someone that sections of the Highline near the Garden Wall are crumbling faster than expected. They mentioned at least three hikers took falls this season on loose rock around mile 8. I'm rethinking my September trip there unless I can get some solid beta on alternative bypass routes.

Honestly, "crumbling faster than expected" sounds like the kinda thing rangers say to keep crowds down. I've been on the Highline three times in the last five years and the only sketchy part was my own footing on a windy day. With good boots and some common sense, you'll be fine.

Yeah but rock doesn't wait for good boots, I've seen whole trail sections drop overnight.
