Vent: My brother insists on leading our backpacking trips but picks rough routes

Every year we try to do a sibling hike, and he always chooses trails that are too hard for our group. Last time, my cousin twisted an ankle on a steep section he picked. I want to keep the peace but also make sure everyone has a good time. How do you handle route planning with family who have different ideas? Any advice for finding middle ground trails?

My dad once picked a trail that was pretty much a cliff (we still joke about it).

Our group just checks the trail map photos now, saves a lot of trouble.

My friend's hike went like @fox.joel's dad's cliff trail... so now we vote on routes first.
