A weekend in the woods made me rethink my bird bath setup
Last fall, I visited a friend's cottage by a lake. Watching warblers flit through the reeds made me see my own yard was too tidy. I came home and let a patch grow wild, and now I have chickadees nesting. Sometimes you need to get away to see what's missing at home.

It's crazy how a short trip can flip your view on things at home. I used to keep my lawn perfect, but now I leave some leaves and sticks for the birds. They seem a lot happier with the extra cover.

Wait you used to have a perfect lawn? That's wild to me, I've never even owned a lawnmower. My whole yard is just dandelions and those spiky weed balls that stick to your socks. The idea of getting it all green and even sounds like a full time job.

Seriously, my old lawn was such a waste of water and weekends.
