Shelled out $90 for a fancy heated birdbath and it was totally worth it

I fought against buying one of these for two winters. Thought the birds would just use puddles or whatever. Then we got that brutal cold snap last month and I watched a robin trying to drink from a half-frozen dish. Ordered a thermostatically controlled model with a built-in heater from Amazon the next day. Has anyone else found these things attract way more species than a regular feeder?

Did you notice a major uptick in non-feeder birds showing up after you set it up?

Hold on there, I think you might be mixing up "non-feeder birds" with something else. A lot of people call them "non-feeder" birds but really they're just regular birds that happen to visit for things like bugs or spilled seed. I've had feeders up for years and the ONLY uptick I saw was in birds that actually EAT at the feeders. The jays and woodpeckers didn't show up more, they just came for the suet and peanuts. If you're getting more random birds like starlings or grackles, that's normally because of the type of seed you're using, not the feeder itself. I've seen people blame "non-feeder species" for crowding out finches but honestly its usually the cheap mixed seed that does it. Just something to keep in mind before you redesign your whole setup.
