Concrete paver base failed on me after a single winter

I put in a little patio area behind my shed last June, used that crushed limestone base like everyone said. After this winter in Cleveland the whole thing sank about 2 inches on one side with all the freeze thaw cycles. Had to rip up 40 pavers and redo it with 4 inches of compacted gravel and a real edge restraint this time. Anyone else have their paver base let them down after the first cold season?

Hold up, you really only put crushed limestone down and nothing else? That stuff's basically just dust and gravel, it's not a real base for a patio in a place that actually freezes. Yeah no wonder it sank on you, that's basically just decorative gravel.
