Just found a cheap fix for my rotting deck boards
Was at a hardware store last Saturday and overheard a guy talking about using exterior wood hardener. Not the big brand stuff, just the regular liquid you brush on. I had two boards near the grill that were soft and crumbly. Picked up a quart for $12 and brushed it on. Let it dry for 24 hours then sealed over it. That was a month ago and those spots are solid now. Anyone else tried this on a small area before?

Yep, did the same thing on some back steps last fall. Brushed that stuff on a spongy spot near where the downspout drips and it hardened up really well. Still holding up after a winter of snow and rain, no sign of rot coming back.
