PSA: put a $6 bag of paver sand under your flagstones, my patio finally stopped wobbling
So last month I finally got around to finishing the 10x12 flagstone patio in my backyard, and I was feeling pretty good about it until I walked across it barefoot and every other stone rocked and clacked. I had just set them on a bed of packed dirt like a dummy and figured gravity would handle the rest. After two weeks of tripping over the same corner stone every time I carried my coffee out there, I gave up and pulled them all back up. A guy at the rock yard in Sacramento asked what I was laying them on and when I said plain dirt he just laughed and sold me one bag of paver sand for $6. I screened it flat, laid the stones back down, and swept the sand into the gaps with a broom. Rocked zero stones after that, and it rained twice since and nothing shifted. Wish someone had told me this before I dug out the whole thing the first time. Anyone else learn a cheap fix the hard way on a patio?
