My car's check engine light came on right before a big trip

I thought it was a quick fix, but the auto shop kept it for 3 days trying to find the sensor issue. My neighbor gave me a ride to work all week, which honestly saved me. Anyone else have a simple car problem turn into a huge time sink?

Ugh, that's the worst. It always starts as a "simple sensor swap" and turns into a diagnostic black hole. Glad your neighbor had your back, that's the only thing that saves you when the shop holds your car hostage.

Honestly, sometimes that "diagnostic black hole" is just the shop doing their job right. Cars are crazy complicated now, and a bad sensor can mess with a bunch of other systems. It's not always a hostage situation, sometimes they're just trying to fix it for good so you don't come back mad next week.
