Rant: my gym's "no rest between sets" rule made my bad day way worse, not better
Last Tuesday I was already having a rough one. I got a flat on the way to my gym in Sacramento, showed up 20 minutes late, and just wanted to lift something heavy and forget about it for an hour. But the new trainer there keeps telling people to skip rest between sets to "keep the heart rate up." So I tried it, rushed through squats without breathing right, and ended up so dizzy I had to sit on the floor by the dumbbell rack for 10 minutes. Then a guy I see there most mornings looked at me and said "you went too fast on your first set, that's why." And he was right. I took 2 full minutes before my next set and suddenly everything felt normal again. The real turnaround was that tiny pause, not pushing through the burn. Why does everyone act like resting is cheating? Anyone else have a gym rule that made their bad day worse before it got better?
Used to buy into that whole push through it thing until I almost passed out mid deadlift and realized breathing actually matters more than looking tough. Resting between sets is not cheating, it's just smart, and your dizzy gym moment proves it lol.
