Warning: my sourdough starter turned pink and I almost baked with it
So about 3 weeks ago I noticed a faint pink streak on top of my starter and figured it was just the flour I'd switched to. I fed it like normal for 4 more days, then did some digging and found out pink or orange means it's gone bad with bacteria that can make you sick. I dumped the whole jar, which hurt since it was 5 years old and came from a bakery in Portland. Took me 12 days to get a new one going strong enough to bake with, and I'm still babying it. Has anyone else lost a starter this way, and did you save a backup jar after?
